What I can offer

Are you looking to transition your school from a balanced literacy approach to a structured approach?

Have you heard about the Science of Reading, but you aren’t sure where to start or how to get the ball rolling?

Do you want the best methods for teaching reading in your school?

If this sounds like you, read on.

Having made the transition successfully in two schools now, I am confident that my approaches to making the change will be seamless, efficient and effective. I have a thorough knowledge of all resources that can be used in this process, including decodable texts, and can provide professional development and instructional coaching to schools and school clusters across Australia.

I can work with LEADERSHIP to create an action plan going forward, whilst setting up a Google Drive to store all assessment trackers and documents. I will share trackers that we created as a school and co-create an assessment schedule with you that is evidence based. I also assist with any purchasing requirements and train staff to lead the change.

If you would prefer I would with a particular sub-school team, such as the JUNIOR SCHOOL, then I can provide professional learning on the Science of Reading and the research supporting its use. I can explain the use of decodable readers, and go over some resources that can be used. I will sit with your team and develop a scope and sequence to follow through the school and also provide guidance on important literacy block aspects such as phonemic awareness and phonics. Finally, I can demonstrate lesson structures and ideas for your literacy block. In the senior school, we can develop strategies around the teaching of morphology and tackle the multitude of spelling approaches and programs before settling on one for your school.

With regards to WHOLE SCHOOL training, I can run Curriculum/Student-Free Days, from half days to whole days, where we will cover the Big 6 in reading, Assessments, resources, decodable readers, scope and sequences, and much, much more. The day will be guided by your context and where you are at on your Science of Reading journey.

If you are a teacher who is looking to develop your own knowledge and capacity around the Science of Reading, I also offer monthly workshops at Westall Primary School in Melbourne’s South East. I am always looking for host schools in and around Melbourne, but also in other states. So if you feel your school would be suitable to host (must seat 30 people minimum) then please get in contact and we can make it happen.
